June 24 – Children and War – Susan Hackley Over a decade of continuous warfare has deeply impacted children of American service personnel. Filmmaker Susan Hackley will present her work concerning this issue and lead us in a discussion of its implications.

July 1- NO SERVICE

July 8 – Our Bodies Ourselves, Feminist Reflections on Women’s Resistance – Norma Swenson A feminist activist for a half-century, Norma Swenson raises provocative questions about how “progress” for women is measured, by whom, and who benefits – or loses – from dramatic social movement changes today.

July 15 – Learning from Zambia – FUUSN Youth Come hear young FUUSN people who have traveled to Zambia explain how the experience changed their lives. This program of travelers started in 2005 and continues this summer for about 70 people from FUUSN through our Communities Without Borders.

July 22 – Learning from People We Disagree With – Curt Lamb Cultivating a sympathetic understanding of people we disagree with is difficult, but a skill that directly impacts the quality of our personal and civic lives. In this service we will share about applying this skill within our family circle and in the political realm.

July 29 – Life Lessons through Bach – Lois Shapiro Lois Shapiro, FUUSN’s resident virtuoso pianist and philosopher, will lead an exploration of the Goldberg variations to see how “……Bach shows us what it feels like to be the universe.”

August 5 – Feeding Our Souls: Nourishing Resilience & Serenity – Betsy Leavitt, Ann Woodbury, Joan Caplan Betsy, Ann and Joan will share and explore methods of recognizing that which feeds us at the deepest levels. How can we develop and enhance resilience and serenity, especially during challenging times?

August 12 – Animal Rights: UUs Expand the Circle – Chris Holbein Should the UU commitment to social justice extend to other sentient beings, regardless of species? This service will be led by Chris Holbein, a FUUSN graduate now helping lead public policy efforts at the Humane Society of the United States.

August 19 – Speaking Up, Even When It’s Hard – Kate Carney Moments that require speaking up are often turning points in our lives. Come hear fellow FUUSN-ites tell stories of taking a stand — and share your own.

August 26 – Visions of Black Universalism – Tim Wells Tim Wells will discuss historic visions of black Universalism and present his own vison forged in his personal experience.

Sept. 2 – NO SERVICE
